Wrapping high bids of retaliating back in minds after suffering a humiliating defeat in the opening match against France, the Socceroos’ are buckling up to face Tunisia in their next fixture of the Group D campaign on Saturday.
Both engaging teams of Group D, Australia and Tunisia, are rolling on marred performances, as Australia lost to France in their campaign opener by 4-1, and Tunisia ended up with a goalless draw against Denmark in their first match.
The African nation is competing in the FIFA World Cup for the sixth time, but it still aims to make it to the knockout rounds, which will be its first-ever qualification. Tunisia’s next fixture is against France, an almost pre-declared battle for them, so their only opportunity to hinge next round is to defeat Australia.
In contrast, Australia is undoubtedly demoralized after losing to France 4-1 and moving down to the bottom of their group rankings. Even though Craig opened the scoring for the Socceroos in the ninth minute of the match, the French team responded four times without facing retaliation from their opponents.
Australia has qualified for the World Cup Group Rounds straight for the last five years, with one knockout appearance and three eliminations in the qualifying stages. The national side now needs to post a heavy defeat to Tunisia to fancy their chances in this event.
