Indian Cricket Jersey Sponsor “Byju” Closes Deal

Just In: A top official from BBCI has confirmed that the Indian National Cricket Team Jersey Sponsor “Byjo” is ending its jersey sponsorship contract with the Board of Control for Cricket in India.

According to details, Team India’s current jersey sponsors have written to the BCCI that they want to end jersey sponsorship. The Board will hopefully allow them permission to exit, given that all the contractual obligations and terms are accomplished.

“Yes, they have written to us they want to leave jersey sponsorship. The matter will be discussed at Apex Council Meeting. They need to fulfill all the contractual responsibilities and exit can taken,” says a BCCI officeholder.

It is pertinent to mention that Byju has extended its contract with the BCCI until 2023 ending for $55 million, while their original deal expired in March 2022. Now, the financially unstable Ed-Tech Company wants to withdraw by March 2023.

The new deal between Byju and BCCI involves new obligations under which Byju is paying around 10% more than what Oppo was paying to the BCCI on a per-match basis. However, with Byju Raveendran-led unicorn intentions changed, they want to end the contract.

On the other hand, Byju’s Media Department has also passed its comments, saying the company is working to optimize its media spending in India; therefore, they want to walk out of the sponsorship deal with the Indian Cricket Board.
