Just In: The newly hired South Africa’s Limited-overs Coach Rob Walter has expressed his thoughts on seasoned Proteas batter Faf de Plessis, saying he is ready to welcome his return to the national side.

Walter stated that South Africa needs some quality players for retaliation, especially after showcasing poor performances in recent matches, and de Plessis could be the prime reason for their resurgence.

It is pertinent to mention that the former South African Skipper hasn’t shown up on international cricketing grounds since the second test match against Pakistan in February 2021 at Rawalpindi.

However, during his time of Absence from the National Side, he shinned in various T20 Leagues globally, including the Indian Premier League, South Africa 20, and the Big Bash League in Australia.

The New Boss of South Africa’s T20 Squad, Walter, wants du Flessis’s return in the shorter format of cricket. While talking to the Rapport Newspaper, he stated that the experienced batter might have retired from Red-ball Cricket but remains an unmatched T20 player.

Walter also revealed that he hasn’t started formal talks with Faf du Plessis about playing for South Africa again; however, he would be ready to negiotiate if de Plessis approaches him regarding his return.

“Faf has not retired yet. He still displayed good T20 cricket. He will build his future around T20 Tournaments. I haven’t spoken to him yet, but if he would like to play for South Africa again, I would be open to that.”

He is a good player, and the more quality players you have who want to play for National Side, the better. If he’s one of those players, that’s great. Does this mean he will play for South Africa again? I do not know.”
