Just In: Jay Shah has confirmed that Rohit Sharma has returned to Mumbai to consult a specialist and will not be available for the third and final ODI on Saturday. However, the decision on Rohit’s participation in the Test series commencing on Dec 14 will be taken later.

While responding to speculations regarding Sharma’s unavailability for the two-match Test series due to an injured Left Thumb, BCCI secretary Jay Shah provided an official update on the opener’s overall health and fitness.

Sharma seconded the Head Coach Rahul Dravid’s words and confirmed that Rohit has returned to Mumbai to meet Doctors and will miss the last One-Day International Match against Bangladesh, while his availability for the test series is still pending.

“The BCCI Media Team checked on him before Sharma underwent scans at a Local Hospital in Dhaka. He has flown to Mumbai for specialist consultation and will miss the Final ODI, while the decision on his availability for the upcoming test series will be taken later,” says Shah in a press release.

It is pertinent to mention that Team India has a busy home-series schedule ahead, as they will host multiple Test and ODI series against Australia, Sri Lanka, and New Zealand. Perhaps, it would be a surprise if Sharma regains fitness before the test series because a typical Thumb Injury takes around 20-25 days to heal.
