Saeed Ajmal Stepped in to Answer Baber’s Critics

Former spin wizard, Saeed Ajmal, has stepped in to respond to critics, who have called Baber Azam a selfish batter, claiming if Baber is a Selfish player, Team Pakistan needs two or three more players like him for better performance.

While speaking to the Media, the Off-Spinner, upon a question on Baber being labeled Selfish, not just lashes out at the critics doing so but also defends him, saying that Baber Azam is a seasoned captain and match-winning player.

Ajmal, who played for National Cricket Team in 113 ODIs and 64 T20Is, added, “Baber Azam is a skilled batter, and any negative part of his game needs to be correct, so it is not a good gesture to label him with sacking titles.”

“If Baber Azam is selfish, then Pakistan needs two or three additional such players in the squad. Baber Azam is a good captain, and there is no need for separate captains across all three formats. If they still want to do it, then they should only consider separate skippers in while and red-ball cricket,” he added.

It is pertinent to mention that despite playing a fantastic inning of 79 runs in the second ODI, Baber Azam received harsh criticism for his selfish batting approach because they lost by 79 runs. Even though Baber maintained a strike rate under 62 while chasing a stiff 262 targets, none of his teammates partnered with him in long innings, causing a shameful defeat.

The 28-year-old keeps a prolific batting record across all formats. In 2022, he was the highest run-scorer in ODIs and Tests and second-highest in T20Is. Perhaps, his keen test will be on Friday when they will face New Zealand in three and final ODI of the series.
