Just In: A big day for Women Cricket Promoters in India has arrived. Today, an Auction for the first season of Women Indian Premier Leagues Media Rights is scheduled at the Taj Santa Cruz, and a few top-notch Broadcasters and OTT Platforms from India will submit their Bids.
According to the Sources, 3 top-tier Broadcasting Firms and OTT Hubs in the country are interested in buying the Media Rights of the Women Indian Premier League, and they will offer their highest Bids, while the one with the Highest Figures would seize the Rights.
The interesting Broadcasters include Disney+Star, Sony-Zee (Combine), and Viacom 18. After bids, the Indian Cricket Board will announce the winner of the Media Rights Bids by Monday Afternoon. Currently, the Bid Submission is underway at the Taj Santa Cruz.
It is pertinent to mention that the WIPL 2023 Media Rights Auction was set four days earlier but postponed by the BCCI. It is the first-ever Women’s Rights Bidding in India, which will help in promoting the Sport for Women in the country.
As per Bidding Rules, all the participants will submit their Bids, and the process will be closed with the best bidder. Of course, the highest Bidders have all the chances to bag the deal; however, if the amount is not the highest, the best one gets the contract.
Currently, Star Sports is paying INR 2.5 crore for each game of the Women’s T20 Challenge. However, Cricketing Circles thinks it is an undervaluation amount and demands to double the value, making five crores. Considering those figures, if the WIPL features 22 games in the initial season, its broadcasting rights could cost around 110 crores.
